Ordinary But Extraordinary Men

Here I am, an ordinary man with two ordinary vehicles and an ordinary house.
Many of my neighbors are also ordinary men who own an ordinary car and an ordinary house.
A few among us are also ordinary, but have many extraordinary cars and extraordinary houses.
Then, there are the rich and famous and showy among us who own many extraordinary houses and many extraordinary cars.
*******
None of these people surprised me before.
In fact, I lived contented, and was happy to see others enjoyed a better lifestyle.
But I was surprised when I saw extraordinary men with a very ordinary house and a very ordinary car.
I was surprised to know that they could still be very contented and happy.
*******
After many years of thinking, and experiencing life,
I am no longer surprised!
There are more to life than material comforts and physical pleasure;
There are other worthwhile pursuits and ways of life;
There are scholarly, academic and intellectual pursuits;
There are recreational, leisure and outdoor pursuits;
There are communitarian pursuits;
There are agricultural pursuits;
There are artistic and creative pursuits;
There are spiritual and religious pursuits;
In fact, there are numerous legitimate and honorable pursuits in life that are worth having.
*******
I am happy to see an extraordinary man living an ordinary life.
A man with a very ordinary car and a very ordinary house needn’t be ordinary.
After all, he or she is very special in the eyes of God;
He enjoy God and all His blessings,
And he commands respect, admiration and curiosity from others.
*******
Ordinary man needs not feels ordinary.
It is the ability and the freedom to enjoy life that matter.
I would rather enjoy the little that I have,
Than to hoard up treasures,
That I don't have the time and opportunity to enjoy.
*******
Ordinary man can be extraordinary;
Extraordinary man can be ordinary.
It is the quality lifestyle and amenities,
Hygienic environment,
And leisure experience,
That matter in life.
*******
I would rather be ordinary,
But live life extraordinary.
And I will be extra happy,
If I can remain ordinary.
Oh! Happy ordinary men!

Journey Home - Family Reunion

It was 3 on a Friday afternoon.
I had just completed my Adgitize and Entrecard clicks.
As promised, it was time to pick up the children from the airport;
They were returning home for their holidays.
*******
I drove to the petrol station;
I filled up the petrol tank.
Then I pumped up the tires.
We had a last minute hunch and thought;
Then we started our journey.
*******
The morning work had been rather relaxing;
I had less teaching periods and shorter teaching hours today;
It was the Muslim fasting month.
Nonetheless I occupied myself with productive activities;
Work ethics had taught me to be responsible and not to waste precious time.
********
Feeling rather tired, I shrugged my shoulders;
I rolled my eyes;
Stroked and patted my neck a little;
Took deeper and longer breaths;
And tried to push away the burden of the day.
*******
With the music and conversation on,
A little laughter and humor now and then,
and the beautiful scenery along the way,
The day seemed nice and fresh again.
I felt refreshed and ready for the world.
Family gathering has always been a good cure for work pressure.
*******
The journey was smooth,
But I was filled with apprehension.
I had the radiator cleaned and the thermostat replaced,
After an overheated engine a few days ago.
*******
My heart was throbbing fast,
My eyes kept on watching the water meter,
As I drove slowly along the way.
It was only after half an hour later,
When everything seemed to be okay,
That my body, mind, and heart could settle down.
*******
We arrived at the airport an hour before the flight arrived.
We had 2 KFC dinner plate sets,
To celebrate our safe arrival and our well-deserved rest.
*******
We watching the people around us;
They were full of anticipation, expectation and excitement.
Some were talking quietly.
Some had their whole family gathered here.
The curious children were running around,
Pointing and touching everything they saw,
And talked and smiled and laughed among themselves.
The old men and women were sitting in a corner,
Waiting patiently and talking quietly.
*******
We laughed and smiled and had a good time.
But deep inside, we thanked God for answering our prayer,
Bringing us safely to the airport.
*******
The flight had arrived.
We had our sweet and joyous reunion.
We shook hands,
Hugging one another,
And had a nice conversation.
Then we got ready for our home.
*******
We checked the radiator water;
It was still filled to the top.
We had a nice surprise and a hearty smile.
*******
The dusk was deepening fast,
As we journeyed back home.
Many motorcyclists were along the way,
They were back from the city after their work.
*******
We arrived home after 7.
We put down everything,
We cleaned ourselves up and ready for our dinner.
And we continued our hearty conversation.
*******
It was indeed a day of journey and discovery;
A journey of learning and appreciating;
A journey of patience and humble discovery.
Thank God for the experience,
An experience that is difficult to forget.
*******
The journey home;
Ever filled with anticipation, expectation, and excitement.
It is not just a normal happening;
It is filled with worry, anxiety, and fear.
But we are not alone and not without God's promises,
As we journey home.

A Quiet Routine

Sitting in the office, I was contemplating what to do next.
It was a quiet, relaxed and peaceful morning.
And I was filled with inspiration, motivation and life.
Somehow many things went in and out of my mind,
And I was feeling and touching things on my table,
Thinking and listing down everything I wanted to do.
*******
I checked some reports, dully signed and acknowledged.
I powered up my computer, checked through the latest emails.
I tidied up my files and folders, and sorted through papers.
Then I took a well-deserved rest, sipping my sugarless tea.
*******
Once in a while I was distracted by the noises and activities around.
I wasn't surprised; in fact I welcomed them once in a while.
It was normal and expected in a common office building.
Everyone was trying to release tensions and stresses somehow.
I had a quick smile and a quiet laugh.
Somehow we needed people to spice up our lives.
*******
I continued to enjoy my pleasant and fruitful time,
Doing all that I wanted.
*******
Then a colleague sitting beside was coughing terribly and continuously.
He might have smoked too much or eaten too much hot and spicy food.
Anyway, I knew for sure that he was not a good water drinker.
And lately every time he entered the room, the smell of cigarette smoke lingered for a long while.
*******
I took a sneak peek at him.
He was busy playing computer games.
I couldn’t understand how he could spend his working hours on personal interests while everyone was busy with official duties!
Anyway, it was none of my business and I continued to enjoy my works.
*******
It was nearing the end of the school term.
Many teachers were rushing up to finish their marking.
The school authority demanded the latest scores and grades,
Since the prize-giving day was really soon.
******
The students outside were making lots of noise;
They were already in their holidays mood.
*******
Some exam classes were having party with their teachers;
A time to get together and fellowship, before the departure.
They looked rather concerned for one another;
Some were quiet and sad, talking softly among themselves.
There were rounds of handshakes, exchange of greetings and well wishes.
The public exam was round the corner.
More than words.....
More than words.....
As they said goodbye to one another.
*******
Going back to the staffroom.
Here teachers gathered before they parted ways.
Many happy and smiling faces,
Talking and laughing out loud.
The teaching pressure must have gone.
Nonetheless, a few were still rushing through their last minutes work.
They looked rather troubled and worried.
*******
Walking along the paths under the trees.
It was always quiet and peaceful here,
So was I.
Life is always a passing through under the shelter of God.
Nothing really disturbed my life,
Except the duty of living a godly and thankful life.
*******
Nothing really stirred me up these days.
Nothing really affected me.
It was always a quiet routine.
And it always will be.

Admitting What We Don’t Know

Can we comfortably admit that there are some things or some people that we don't understand? Or do we do so unwillingly, grudgingly or not at all?

There are indeed many things and many people in this world that we don’t really know.

In fact, some of us may have many relationship problems with others. We may not know how to get along with our parents and elders, our family, our relatives and friends, our neighbors and colleagues, and sometimes even our ‘enemies’, strangers and first time visitors!

And the universe we have is so vast and we are so small, that there are always things that we don’t know, but somehow we pretend to know, we assume we know, and we insist we know!

But the funny thing is that sometimes we can’t even give a direct answer to a simple question. We make tons of excuses and we place a lot of blames. We try to avoid the question, not wanting to be trapped into stating our opinion. We make many speculations and assumptions, venture into many things we don’t know, and causing unnecessary attention and attraction. Then we deny what we have spoken, when pushed to a tight corner and under pressure!

The simplest thing to do in life is to admit what we don’t know.

While saying so, it is funny to notice that some of us are not interested in many things and many people that come into their life. They are keeping themselves to their own world, minding their own businesses and problems. Many happenings around the world are not their direct concern, and they don’t care even the life and death of others.

I believe we must show a keen interest to the world we live in. I believe we must contribute to the well-being of the world we live in.

Some of us claim that they are tired of understanding others. I don’t know why.

To me, the humble and positive spirit to learn from others is what we need these days. Ego and embarrassment don’t come in here. I believe it is our duty to learn to care about the many things and people around us. We are to be inquisitive and find out more!

Out there, there bound to be people who know more and can guide us through, giving us clear direction as to what to do! Out there, there will be people to coach us so that we don’t easily get lost!

Sometimes we do need to slow down a little, have a glass of hot or cold drink, and think through things. Maybe a little smile and a little nodding of the head to people around can be a good start. Sometimes we forget how positive attitude can really draw crowds of friends to us.

Learning to admit what we don’t know can really teach us many new things and help us cultivate better friends and acquaintances.

Maybe this is what you need now!
